The world of Tales from Ilgraya wasn't born from a casual imagination; it was forged in the quiet, heavy spaces where life and survival meet.
The foundations of this world were laid back in an 8th-grade lunchroom, born from a need to make sense of a changing reality after the death of a father. What started as making up stories to pass the time became a lifelong collaboration. Through decades of TTRPG sessions and worldbuilding that began in the early 2000s, K.S. Aten and their closest confidant developed the intricate systems and maps that would eventually become a sanctuary. While their mama fought her own battle with cancer, K.S. Aten sat by her side and read these drafts aloud—she was the first audience, witnessing the resilience being woven into the very fabric of the characters they were creating together.
That legacy of endurance is the pulse of everything K.S. Aten writes. Their voice was sharpened through a relentless journey that began in 2009, spanning over sixty surgeries and the total recalibration of their world. As they prepare for surgery sixty-one, the writing remains more than a hobby; it is a systematic reconstruction of a perspective tested by the absolute limits of human experience.
